Therapeutic Approach:
I see my role as that of working in partnership with you to expand your repertoire of skills and possibilities so that you can face life’s challenges and develop an increasing sense of well-being.

What is well-being?  It is a sense of ease, flexibility, freedom and connection.  This means a healthy connection both within ourselves and with others that allows us to move toward greater resilience and health and away from the chaos or rigidity that would keep us stuck in behavioral ruts, whether anxiety, depression, anger and alienation, obsession or addiction.

My therapeutic approach draws on various psychological orientations, including developmental, cognitive-behavioral, and family systems.

  • The developmental aspect has to do with meeting the challenges occurring across the life span;
  •  the cognitive-behavioral aspect with addressing outmoded or ineffective attitudes, beliefs and thoughts;
  • the systems aspect with the fact that we are all part of networks of people, be they partners, extended family, fellow employees, or larger community;

The particular approach used will depend on the kind of challenge or change you face, where you are in the change process, and your particular personality style. In some instances, this will mean providing information through books or videos and asking you to complete homework assignments, in others, it might mean accessing your inner resources through such techniques as EMDR or Interactive Guided Imagery and collaborating with these to offer increased options for finding and sustaining well-being.

Be aware that the above treatment approaches are not clinically appropriate for some conditions or situations.  I will work with you during the first few sessions to develop a treatment plan to best meet your needs, and then will continue to update this as we go.

I look forward to working with you!
